Yesterday, RERA held a handover ceremony, an event that marked the beginning of a new chapter as Dr. Paulo da GRACA, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Autoridade Reguladora de Energia (ARENE) took over the baton from the Chief Executive Officer of the Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority, Mr. Skhumbuzo Tsabedze, as the new Chairperson of RERA.
In his remarks, the new Chairperson stated that the day marked a renewed chapter for RERA as we reaffirm our collective commitment to a harmonised, sustainable, and inclusive energy future for the SADC region.
The incoming Chairperson highlighted the urgency of deepening regional integration, championing a just energy transition, and strengthening regulatory capacity to bridge the gap between policy ambition and real impact on the ground. With abundant regional energy resources yet persistent energy poverty, the message was clear: regulation must be an enabler of cross-border trade, innovation, affordability, and resilience. By working together as regulators, and in partnership with stakeholders, RERA can help power industrial growth, universal access, and a fair transition for over 300 million people in Southern Africa.
“If we want to go far, we must go together.”
